Lake Central was recognized by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as a “Best Buy” high school for producing the greatest academic achievements per dollar of taxpayer funds.

Accredited by the North Central Association, LCHS offers students a broad array of academic, athletic and extra-curricular possibilities.
LCHS’s 10th grade students consistently average over 80% passing in both English/Language Arts and Mathematics on the Graduating Qualifying Examination, well above the state average.
LCHS ranks 5th in the state of Indiana of percentage of students taking the SAT, with a college enrollment rate of 87% for the class of 2007.
Each year, LCHS recognizes several students as National Merit finalists and Commended Scholars.
An articulation agreement enables LCHS students to receive college credit at Purdue University Calumet and Indiana University Northwest.
Academic Departments include Visual Arts, Business, Communications, English, Family and Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Math, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, World Language, Technology, and Vocational Education.
Over 170 different courses are offered including a Professional Internship and ICE (co-op) program that allow students to work with local business professionals in their field of interest.
The high school includes Honors courses for grades 9 – 12; Merit English classes, and 13 Advanced Placement classes in which students can receive college credit.
Students enrolled in automotive technology, graphics, and metals can receive certification and be ready for the job force.
Juniors and Seniors have the opportunity to attend the Hammond Area Career Center for vocational classes not offered on campus.
Student Resource Time (SRT), after-school tutoring, and classes for English language learners and at-risk students provide opportunities for student success.
LCHS has a wide spectrum of special education classes for students with disabilities.
LCHS offers a broad array of extracurricular activities including interscholastic sports, fine arts-related performances, curriculum and cultural related clubs, student government, and academic contests.
During the 2007-2008 school year, 823 students participated in sports at LCHS including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.
